Depression gets the best of us and you never know what someone is going through. Sometimes all it takes is some encouragement and understanding from a friend to liberate someone of this terrible mental illness. Jiu-Jitsu helps many practitioners feel welcomed on the mats and gives people an opportunity to learn more about themselves and find their purpose in life. Louie Moreno is someone that seeks to improve not only on the mats but in everyday life. Knowing how to progress the human experience in all aspects of life is important for continued growth and happiness for many people. Have your instructors helped you in other aspects of life other than jiu-jitsu?
Yes, my instructors taught me to never quit and losing in learning, when I win embrace the moment then leave it and go explore other great moments
What are some lessons you learned from jiu-jitsu that applies to everyday life?
Move with purpose, plan then action, mental physical and spiritual edification is necessary

6 days a week
What made you want to start training?
I was out of shape and depressed and my buddy Chris Giannelli told me that he is training after work, so I saw Royce Gracie in the UFC and thought that’s what I need in my life, so I proceeded to have my EGO crushed and never looked back
Do you plan on training your whole life?
I plan to be buried in my GI
What’s it about jiu-jitsu that makes it so addicting?
The consistent growth
What has jiu-jitsu done for your physical health?
It has made me more confident mentally, physically I feel like I am 25 being mobile and agile also in the best shape of my life, Spiritually never quit attitude
If you could restart your jiu-jitsu journey, would you do anything differently?
Nope
What’s your advice for someone that’s never tried jiu-jitsu before but is interested in trying it?
Don’t hold yourself back take the huge step and find a BJJ school near you, do your research and make sure the professor is legit, then If you try a school and have a bad experience try another
Do you have any aspirations in jiu-jitsu?
I am consistently aspiring to be like the older men on the mat competing at 60-70 years old and crushing it

If you didn’t discover jiu-jitsu, where do you think you’d be now?
Who knows, who cares, I love where I am now, I would hope as happy as I am now

YES, Olympics
Have any of your training partners pushed you to reach your full potential?
They all push me, all the time to my full potential, they love me
When you were first starting, what was the most difficult concept of jiu-jitsu that you had trouble getting?
Remaining calm and fluid
What makes you want to inspire and motivate others?
If I can inspire another human to be happier in their life, that is a true success
Was there a difficult moment in your life where jiu-jitsu helped you get through it?
If so, please explain. Yes, when my Grandmother who raised me passed away, then 3 years later my mom passed away and they were my biggest fans and motivated me more than anyone, I am still recovering but with every day on the mat it brings me closer to them, because I know they are watching wanting me to do what I love and that’s Jiu-Jitsu

I love teaching competition classes
What do you think you would be doing with your life if you didn't discover jiu-jitsu?
I would hope to be doing, what I am doing now with my current career

What techniques/common mistakes do you see white belts and early practitioners make?
What mistakes don’t they make 😊but one thing I would recommend is to learn to breathe, hold your breath and pass out
What are some simple things that new practitioners can do to improve their jiu-jitsu?
Learn to breathe, move with purpose, train as much as you can on the mat in BJJ
What was your experience like receiving your black belt?
Unreal, magical
What are your thoughts on CrossFit? And why do you think it gets so much hate in the fitness industry?
I have my L1 in CrossFit and I love it, others will hate or push other things down by choice, I guess it would be up to the individual
How important is a strong mindset for overall success and how can someone improve upon it?
Mindset is 70%-80% maybe more, I enjoy reading Dr. Wayne Dyer and listening to TED Talk to discover what is out there, find what makes you happy and stimulates you mentally in a positive way and allow yourself to grow
Out of all of your competitions, which one was the most memorable? Why?
PAN AMS 2011, I just got my purple belt and took 2nd, lost in the final to a beast form American Top Team in New York by 2 points

When the journey is over, how would you like to be remembered?
I would love for my Legacy to be one, to inspire others towards health and fitness and mental Happiness and Love
