A Horror Lover with A Passion for Jiu Jitsu | Andrew Shaw's Story

I first met Andrew on social media. We instantly connected through our mutual passion in jiu-jitsu. It's amazing how jiu-jitsu connects people from all walks of life. From Canada all the way to Australia, we managed to find common ground thanks to this wonderful sport. As I started to talk to Andrew, I quickly noticed that he was a kind person with a great personality and had interests in some cool subjects. From being a writer, wrestling fan, comic lover, horror fan, jiu-jitsu practitioner and father, he is someone that isn't only limited to one passion.

Andrew is a great role model for not only his kids but anyone trying to spread happiness and joy in a world that is too often filled with misery and hate. Please welcome Andrew Shaw to the Submission Shark Community.

How Jiu Jitsu Helped Me Recover From Drug and Alcohol Abuse

I was newly sober from drugs and alcohol and didn't have a healthy outlet in life. I knew I didn't want to go back to the way I was living but didn't really have an outlet. A bunch of guys I was hanging around started rolling together at different garages and the "older more seasoned" guys were teaching us triangles, armbars and such. Basic stuff but it was so fascinating to me. I enjoyed the challenge and the spirit of BJJ. It really helped me those first few years to stay occupied, clean and sober. I currently have 12 years of sobriety.
